Stephen Tamang, M.D., MBA, is the Director of Addiction Medicine and Community Health Services at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield and holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City. Dr. Tamang has extensive experience in both outpatient and hospital practice and is dual board-certified in Addiction Medicine and Family Medicine. He served as a Subject Matter Expert for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where he helped develop its Substance Use Disorder curriculum, and also serves as a Physician Advisor for Emily’s Hope, a Sioux Falls–based organization focused on substance use prevention and recovery. In 2025, Dr. Tamang was elected to the Rapid City Council, reflecting his commitment to the community through civic leadership. Previously, Dr. Tamang was the Physician Founder and CEO of Project Recovery in Rapid City, where he designed addiction recovery protocols implemented locally and statewide to combat the opioid epidemic. He has also served as clinical faculty at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and as a Principal Investigator for clinical research at Monument Health. He continues to lead initiatives integrating addiction care, medical respite, and community health services to improve coordinated recovery systems across the region.
