Dr. Mark Garner is the founder and CEO of Orchard Meadows Family Dental & Denture Clinic. Although not a native of Rapid City, he calls it home. Dr. Mark moved here when he was 15 and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1993. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent six years serving our country. After his military service, Dr. Mark attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center-College of Dentistry, and in 2006 he graduated with his Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) degree, with high distinction. He was inducted in the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) — one of only four students in his graduating class.
Dr. Garner strongly believes in giving back to and serving our community. He was instrumental in bringing two charity organizations to Rapid City designed to give free dental services to those less fortunate and without access to care. Dentistry from the Heart (link: https://dentistryfromtheheart.org/) is a day set aside for the less fortunate to receive free dentistry, no questions asked. Freedom Day (link: https://www.freedomdayusa.org/) is specifically designed to serve our underserved Veterans who may not have access to regular dental care. Dr. Mark and his team have also been on mission trips to Costa Rica, providing free dental services to residents in dire need of care.
Dr. Garner is a member of the American Dental Association, the South Dakota Dental Association, the Black Hills District Dental Society, the American Association of Facial Esthetics, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
When not making an impact on his patients’ lives at the office, Dr. Mark loves traveling and exploring the Black Hills on foot or on his motorcycle with his wife Lindsey and their eight children.
Dr. Brady Perdue is a native of Central Oregon. After graduating from high school Dr Perdue completed a two-year service mission for his church, where he became fluent in Spanish. Upon returning home from his mission he completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University and then went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University in 2019.
Dr. Perdue loved his time living in New York City, but after four years he was ready to move back to the West and be closer to family. He was primarily drawn to Orchard Meadows Family Dental & Denture Clinic because of their patient focused practice and their strong commitment to serving the community. Dr Perdue enjoys continually learning and increasing his skills as a general dentist and is excited to soon be trained in placing dental implants.
When Dr. Perdue is not in the office helping his patients, he loves spending time with his wife, Whitney, and their Goldendoodle, Zoe. They love spending time outdoors and exploring the Black Hills. His other love is sports. He grew up playing sports and continues to love playing sports and following his favorite sports teams and players. Go BYU Cougars!
Dentures may be a great option if you have lost some or all of your original teeth. They are made from dental materials that are comfortable and durable, and when properly fitted, new dentures can have the look and feel of natural teeth.
Benefits of Dentures:
Prevents the sagging of facial muscles
Eat and speak normally
A natural looking for gums and teeth
Treatment Process
First appointment — dental exam and impressions of your gums.
Second appointment – ‘wax’ try in. During this critical step in the denture process, you will be fitted with a mockup of your denture that includes a set of pre-made acrylic or composite teeth, set in wax, to make sure you are happy with the dentures general size, shape, position and tooth color.
Third appointment — delivery of your new dentures including adjustments to give a comfortable fit and bite.
Follow up appointments — you may need to return to the office for an adjustment if you experience any sore spots or issue within the next few weeks.
Crowns are prescribed when a tooth or teeth are too badly decayed, broken or cracked and cannot be easily restored with a filling. They are usually needed for teeth that have undergone a root canal or used with implants to replace missing teeth. Typically, crowns are made entirely of gold, or porcelain fused to a gold substrate for strength as well as beauty. However, new advances make it possible for us to make a high-strength ceramic and porcelain crown that gives a beautiful, durable, natural result.
Treatment Process
Prescribed crowns for damaged, decayed or broken teeth.
Preparation of the tooth/teeth by eliminating the tooth structure and creating room for porcelain.
Crown fabrication.
Cement the new crown to the tooth structure.
Dental implants are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth. They are designed to blend in with your other teeth and provide an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile. In fact, the development and use of implants is one of the biggest advances in dentistry in the past 40 years. Dental implants are made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. They are attached to posts that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw and function as a sturdy anchor for replacement teeth.
Implant-Supported Dentures
An implant-supported denture is a type of overdenture that is supported by and attaches to the implant. This denture is used when an individual does not have any teeth but does have enough jawbone structure to support the implants. The implant-supported denture has special attachments that snap onto corresponding implant attachments and are specifically designed for the lower jaw. Regular dentures rest on the gums and are NOT supported by implants, so they tend to slip. However, you can receive an implant supported denture on either the upper or lower jaw to provide stability and retention and prevent your dentures from slipping.
Bridges are prescribed for teeth that are decaying, broken or have damage. They are used when one or more teeth are missing AND there are healthy teeth on both sides of the open space. Preparation begins by eliminating the unhealthy tooth structure. Fabrication of the bridge is completed in our onsite lab and then cemented to the prepared teeth. The final product restores the teeth’s natural beauty and health. There are three types of materials used in bridges — solid gold for reliable long wear, porcelain fused to a gold base for strength and beauty, or a high-strength metal-free porcelain for optimum cosmetic results. With proper care, a new bridge will increase your overall health and instill confidence for years to come.
The DIEM® process allows you to return home the same day as the procedure with replacement teeth that look and function most like natural teeth. Replacing teeth immediately with DIEM® may help preserve oral bone and gum tissue, resulting in dental implant restorations that look and function most like natural teeth; immediate teeth replacement may reduce treatment time. Dr. Garner and his team rebuild full arches and an entire mouth with dental implants utilizing the latest digital dental technology. We have the ability to place all implants and provisional restorations in one visit with the DIEM® process. The benefits are impressive and it all happens while you sleep. It is now possible for many patients to have missing teeth replaced the same day as removal with the DIEM® process.
Sometimes a tooth is too far gone to save. If that happens, you and your doctor may decide on a tooth extraction. Teeth are removed for several reasons including severe decay, advanced bone loss (periodontal disease), or if they are broken in a way that cannot be repaired. A tooth may also need removal because it is are poorly positioned in the mouth — such as an impacted tooth — or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
The removal of a single tooth can lead to other issues, like affecting your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth. All these items can have a major impact on your dental health, so to avoid complications, your doctor will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as a plan for replacement of the missing tooth.
Dental fillings are placed in teeth when a dentist has had to remove tooth structure due to a cavity or fracture. In recent years filling materials have been substantially improved. Many modern materials can be used to match the color and texture of natural teeth, including tooth colored composite filling material, cementable resin, and porcelains.
Treatment process:
Identify the decayed tooth that requires a filling to restore the strength and health of natural teeth.
The decayed portion of the tooth is removed from the sound tooth structure.
Filling materials is shaped to match the look and feel of natural teeth.
Regular preventative maintenance from a certified dental hygienist is essential for your dental health. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends professional maintenance a minimum of every six months, and more often for patients with periodontal disease. The ADA also has the following recommendations for good overall oral hygiene:
Brush twice daily with an ADA accepted fluoride toothpaste.
Replace your toothbrush every three to four months when the bristles break down and fail to clean away bacteria.
Clean between teeth once a day with floss or an interdental cleaner.
Eat a balanced diet and limit between meal snacks.

Invisalign® clear aligners are specifically designed to give you the smile you want without any of the lifestyle changes you don’t. The treatment process includes a series of almost invisible aligners that are switched out approximately every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place. It is the best way to transform your smile and correct the following issues without interfering in your day-to-day life.
Overly crowded teeth:
Sometimes a person’s jaw is too small for all the teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can cause dental decay, increase the chance of gum disease, and prevent normal jaw function or chewing.
Crossbite:
This happens when the upper and lower jaws are misaligned and one or more of the upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. It can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. A crossbite can cause unnatural wearing on your teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.
Overbite:
What people commonly refer to as an “overbite” is known to dental professionals as “overjet” and it happens when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. Typically, overjet is caused by genetics, bad oral habits, or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. A serious overjet can lead to gum problems, irritation, and wear on the lower teeth causing a painful jaw and joint problems.
Underbite:
An underbite happens when the lower teeth protrude past the top front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. Underbite can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars – the flat teeth at the back of your jaw – and like overbite it can lead to tooth wear and painful jaw and joint problems.
Underbite widely spaced teeth:
This occurs with abnormal growth of the jawbone or when teeth are missing, and the other teeth shift due to extra space. Spacing issues in teeth can cause some periodontal diseases.

Dental sealants are hardened plastic shields that are placed on the chewing surface of your child’s molars and pre-molars — the back teeth — to seal the tooth surface and help keep food and bacteria from causing cavities. In one study, kids who received a sealant treatment had half the tooth decay of children who brushed regularly but didn’t have sealants.
Sealants match the exact color of your child’s teeth, are quick and easy to apply, and last from 5 to 10 years. If you want to give your child’s molars the best protection against potential cavities, dental sealants are a great place to start.
